Mike's Crushes
I don't have a picture of my 3rd grade teacher...who by the way was also my Kindergarten teacher in another nearby town! I could not believe when I moved she was ay my new school and my first teacher there! So these are the next best crushes. These pictured were true "I wonder what she's doing now" crushes.

I flat-out loved Lesley's "California Nights" and when she appeared on Batman (was cute as a button) and sang THAT song, I had a full-fledged crush. I was 11 or 12-ish and after that episode nothing else in the world mattered the next few weeks. Watch the Batman performance of California Nights. Ah...the Bradley girls...{sigh}...the "bathed in the water tower every episode!" Bradley girls of Petticoat Junction...Billie Jo, Bobbi Jo and Betty Jo!! I was never hot on any of the Billie Jo's (Jeannine Riley, Gunilla Hutton nor Meredith MacRae), but my weakness has always been redheads...even as a pre-teen...so I fell for Linda Kaye Henning (my first celebrity crush) and even took a shining to Lori Saunders too! Oddly, while she was sweet, interminably cute and certainly kitten-ish, the most famous redhead of the 60s/70s in the movies (movies, not TV...sorry Lucy), Ann-Margaret, never stole my heart.

The only real longtime crush I had from the world of movies. A true girl-next-door type, I scanned the TV Guide each week looking for Carol Lynley. There were some other movie babes I liked, but none to the level of Carol, and the others were always short-term. Another redhead! I first saw Julie Sommars in The Governor & JJ and I was more than enamored! So perky! I never watched it but know that many years later she was on Matlock.

Marcia Brady who? Give me Laurie Partridge! In my opinion, the show was better, funnier and much more amusing than the Brady Brats (who didn't love the one-sided witty dialogue between Danny and Reuben Kincaid?), and it had...ah....Laurie Partridge! The "keyboardist" of the group, she could tickle my ivories anytime! Susan Dey was probably my quintessential definition of cute. The first I saw Donna Mills, in The Good Life. It was a short-lived show where she and Larry Hagman were a husband & wife who worked as a butler & housekeeper for some rich dude. THIS Donna Mills grabbed my heart, and the notice of many others. Her skirts were up to her elbows! I was luke-warm on the 1980s Donna.

Simply, Rosie was hot! And double-jointed!       The Jetsons
Others that, as a pre-teen and early teen in the 1960s I had at least a partial shining for:
  • Nancy Barrett (Carolyn on Dark Shadows)
  • Kate Jackson (Dark Shadows era)
  • Marta Kristen (Judy on Lost In Space)
  • Brenda Scott (was James Caan's love interest in 1968's Journey To Shiloh, one of my Hidden Treasure films)
  • Barbara Hershey (late 1960s films, With Six You Get Eggroll and Last Summer)
  • now ex-con Darlene Gillespie and Karen Pendleton (Mickey Mouse Club)
